SIGART requests feedback from members on CS2013 Curriculum Initiative

SIGART is participating in the CS2013 Curriculum Initiative, a joint effort to develop an updated curriculum for computer science education that ACM and IEEE initiate every ten years or so.
SIGART is requesting members to provide feedback on the progress to date in this activity. A summary of the CS2013 activities is provided in these slides, presented by Mehran Sahami (ACM delegation chair and a SIGART officer for Education Activities) and Zachary Dodds at the Second Symposium on Educational Advances in AI (EAAI) conference that was held with AAAI (http://eaai.stanford.edu/): slides. SIGART participates in the IEEE/ACM Curriculum Initiative

SIGART will participate in the new IEEE/ACM Curriculum Initiative. The charter of this new initiative is to review the Joint ACM and IEEE/CS Computer Science volume of Computing Curricula 2001 and the accompanying interim review CS 2008, and develop a revised and enhanced version for the year 2013 that will match the latest developments in the discipline and have lasting impact. The CS2013 task force will seek input from a diverse audience with the goal of broadening participation in computer science. The report will seek to be international in scope and offer curricular and pedagogical guidance applicable to a wide range of institutions. The process of producing the final report will include multiple opportunities for public consultation and scrutiny.
Two SIGART appointed officers will participate in this initiative, who will serve as Education Activities Liaisons.
Mehran Sahami is Associate Chair for Education and Director of Educational Affairs in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. He will serve as Chair of the CS2013 Steering Committee, and a member of the CS2013 Intelligent Systems Subcommittee. Mehran has been involved in the ACM curriculum development activities at Stanford as well as ACM. He was Chair of the First Conference on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence (EAAI), which SIGART co-sponsors with AAAI and SIGCSE.
Peter Norvig is Director of Research at Google. He will serve as SIGART representative for the CS2013 Intelligent Systems Subcommittee. He is co-author of "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach", a widely used textbook that is now in its third edition. He teaches on occasion at Stanford University.
